On Tuesday, according to the Delhi Health Department, the national capital recorded 917 new COVID cases within 24 hours, which has pushed the case positivity rate to 19.20%, the highest number recorded in the last 7 months. Before that, on January 20, the infection rate was 21.48%. During the last 24 hours, 4775 tests have been conducted in Delhi, out of which 917 new cases have been reported, bringing the tally to 6,867 active COVID cases in the national capital currently.

On August 16, 2022, Mr. Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister, tweeted that 90% of COVID-19 patients at city hospitals were doubly vaccinated but had not taken the booster dose. On the other hand, only 10% of the individuals who had taken the precautionary dose were hospitalized. Thus, it is clear proof that the third dose helps in defending against COVID.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed that on Tuesday, India reported a decline in coronavirus cases with 8,813 fresh Covid-19 infections reported in the last 24 hours as compared to 14,917 cases the day before.

The country has recorded 15,040 recoveries in the last 24 hours, with the current recovery rate reported as 98.56%. The daily positivity rate stands at 4.15% and the weekly positivity rate is reported at 4.79%. The Health Ministry also added that 88.06 crore Covid tests have been conducted so far, out of which 2,12,129 were conducted in the last 24 hours.
